Quick question, friend.
When’s the last time you changed your messaging because you saw somebody else “doing well” and thought,
“Oh… I should probably do that too.” 👀
Ummmhmmm… Let’s talk about it.
Most small business branding mistakes don’t come from lack of effort.
They come from imitation.
❌ Watching what works for others.
❌ Borrowing their tone.
❌ Mimicking their content style.
❌ Recreating their launches.
And before you know it, your brand sounds like everybody else’s… just with different colors.
Well, I don’t know if you were paying attention a couple of months ago or not, but Cardi B just reminded us that authenticity and throwing a brick into the matrix works “errtime.”

Her album rollout didn’t look like the “industry standard.”
🧨 It was loud.
🧨 Unapologetic.
🧨 Personal.
🧨 Steeped in nostalgia.
Very Cardi.
And guess what?
It worked because it was rooted in:
✔️ who she actually is
✔️ how she talks
✔️ what her audience expects from her specifically
She didn’t try to roll out an album like Beyoncé.
She didn’t play elusive like Rihanna.
She didn’t rebrand herself to fit a mold.
She leaned into her voice and let the internet do what it does.
Now let’s bring this back to you.
If your copy sounds like:
🥱 everyone else in your industry
🥱 something you think you’re supposed to say
🥱 a version of yourself you don’t even use in real life
Your audience can feel that.
And when people feel disconnect, they hesitate.
They scroll.
They don’t buy.
So instead of asking,
“What’s working for them?”
Try asking:
❓ What do my clients already respond to?
❓ What do people compliment me on before I even try?
❓ What feels easiest for me to explain or talk about?
A few ways to be more you in your copy (starting today):
👉 Write the way you talk to your favorite client
👉 Say the thing you usually delete because it feels “too much”
👉 Stop forcing a personality that doesn’t fit you or your actual business
Your brand doesn’t need a reinvention.
It needs alignment with the real you.
Just like Cardi.
And when your messaging is aligned with who you actually are and who you actually serve?
That’s when people stop asking questions…
and start trusting you with their money.
